A very touching story of the bond between a horse, Zoey, and his loving master, Albee, but I should warn you that the story of this horse will not be a quick one. Zoey was born on a shabby rat infested farm and loved his mother dearly, but he and his mother were sold separately at an auction and due to his being a half thoroughbred/cult there was much debate over his worth. He was finally sold at three guineas to a drunken farmer. When Zoey got to his new home, a young boy by the name of Albert, the son of the drunken farmer, quickly assumed the role of the master. Albert was kind and fair, but the horse was soon sold to a soldier in the First World War. Just months later, Albert and his family got the news of the soldier's death in action. The soldier was riding Zoey at the time, but the horse didn't die. Instead, the horse was captured by the Germans. Eventually, Zoey goes into the war as German property, but as soon as he got the chance, he zoomed to the American trenches. It was a true page turner the suspense kept me going. I would rate this book a five and a half stars, just above boring. This book would not come to mind first when recommending a book to someone. If I had to sum this book up into one word it would be - DESIRE.
