DAY

Today, November 11th, 2009, we are gathering throughout this great nation to pay our solemn and sincere respects to those true American heroes who placed Duty, Honor and Country above their own Safety.
Today is all about their service and their sacrifice.
Veterans’ Day was once called Armistice Day – the 11th Day of the 11th month, November, at the 11th hour of the morning – to honor and remember the deeds of our World War I veterans and to celebrate the anniversary of the Armistice of that “War to End All Wars ” in 1918.
In 1954, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans’ Day.

Today is the Day we honor the Living Veterans of all American Wars and Conflicts --- BUT I sure hope and trust it IS NOT THE ONLY DAY we remember our living heroes.
And as most of you know, Memorial Day is the Day our
country honors all of our Fallen Veterans who died in the slush and mud of foreign soil, in the air above those soils and in the murky and deep cold waters of the Atlantic and Pacific.
Often people asked where do we find such men as we send off to help save our country in its hours of need?
Former President George H. W. Bush --- a US Navy pilot in World War II --- said in his forward to the book “America’s First Frogman” --- “My answer to that is quite simple. Whenever a crisis arises, the United States will always find such men. We found them in Desert Storm, in Vietnam and in Korea. Surely, we found them in World War II --- and now in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
